Destin Beaches

Destin Dune and Seagrass

Do the Destin beaches live up to the hype? The overwhelming answer is yes! Located along Florida’s “Emerald Coast”, Destin has wide, sugar-white beaches and picturesque dunes that divide it from the resorts, hotels, and condos that line every inch of it. Driving the beach road in this highly developed area will afford you only rare glimpses of the beach and the Gulf beyond it. That is not to say that the beach is spoiled; it is pristine and relaxing, thanks largely to laws protecting the dunes and dune foliage. Most resorts and condos do have boardwalks leading from their pool areas, over the dunes, and right to the beach. You will want to pack towels and blankets, snacks and sandtoys before you make the trek from your room to the beach. You will also want to make sure everyone has made a trip to the facilities. Most boardwalks do have showers (cold ones) at one end, but will not have restrooms. Be thankful for these small inconveniences because they make it possible to forget the crush of resorts just on the other side of the dunes. Once you are settled on the gorgeous beach, staring out at the Gulf of Mexico, the rush of the tourist town behind you fades into obscurity.
