Is Travel to Cozumel Safe?

In light of recent avian flu outbreaks in Mexico, several people have asked me about travel to Mexico's beaches, especially one of my favorites, Cozumel beaches. The official word from the CDC is that travel to Mexico is now as safe as staying home will be, but flu precautions are still recommended everywhere. Ironically, Cozumel is a small island isolated off the coast of Mexico and never reported any flu cases and is likely safer to visit than your local mall. That being said, you should always check the CDC website for travel advisories before traveling out of the country. In the end, if you are uncomfortable with taking a risk, however small, find another beautiful location to enjoy some Beach Therapy. Deerfield Beach Florida or Oskaloosa Island on the Emerald Coast are favorite domestic destinations for me.

Sweet Deal on My Ft. Lauderdale Rental Car

Flew into Ft. Lauderdale Airport and have to say I was impressed! Small, but very efficient and super friendly people. I'd go there again in a heartbeat and would choose them over the huge Miami airport anytime. Easy in and easy out! We needed a rental car so we could beach hop and I got ours from PRICELINE. If you don't use Priceline yet, I highly recommend them for hotels and rental cars (not so much for airfare). We got our economy car for $12 a day! In the future I will bid on a mid-size instead, only because economy didn't have power anything ( : If you are planning a trip soon and need a rental car or hotel start with them and see how you do before you spend too much time trying to hunt down a deal elsewhere. Priceline.com Rental Cars - save up to 30 I have also been successful using them for hotels and even got a 3 star recently for just $55 a night!

So much Beach-Therapy I don't even want to work now!

We had such a wonderful time visiting the beaches in southeast Florida that I am having trouble getting back to work! I just want to lay out in the sun and work on my tan some more. I won't let you down, beach reviews are coming soon. South Beach Miami is gorgeous but not my favorite by far. West Palm Beach was ideal but impossible to access for the average beach bum. I'll get those reviews up soon with tons of beach pictures and video of my favorite! You won't be sorry, so check back soon.

How to Survive a Shark Attack!!

So if you know me very well, you know that the cruel irony of my life is that I really do love the beach and that I really do have a completely irrational fear of being attacked by a shark. Yes, I know that the chances of me being attacked by a shark are much less than me dying in my car on the way to the airport to go to the beach, and yet, any dark shadow in the water instantly creates a flight or fight reaction in me. So as I prepare to head off to the beaches in Ft. Lauderdale and Miami in a couple of days, I did not think it was funny at all to see that the headline in my wiki feed this morning was...you guessed it! "How to Survive a Shark Attack". Very hilarious GOD or Google or whoever made that happen! I did of course click on over and find out how to survive, just in case and was also dismayed to see that the best thing I can do is to "Remain Calm". Great! I'm doomed for sure, or at least relegated to only swimming in ankle deep water at the beach. At least it's better than no beach! Two days and counting, aren't you jealous! Girls Gone Wild Miami Beach - Sorta

My college roommate and I are headed to Ft. Lauderdale and Miami, Florida next weekend for a much deserved girls only vacation. Much has changed in our lives since we lived together (2 marriages, 1 .divorce-hers, 5 kids, 6 pets, 10 houses-mostly mine) but we have stayed in close contact through it all. For the second time in the 13 years since we left college, we are going on vacation together without kids or husbands in tow! It may not be "Girls Gone Wild" in the minds of most of the world, but it certainly is the wildest we have gotten in a very, very, very long time! Priorities - #1 get some serious beach therapy, check out the best beaches in the area for the website, and eat some authentic Cuban dishes like you just can't get in Iowa! Watch my blog for the next couple of weeks as we lead up to our trip and record our adventures in the sun.
